Craig gave a talk on is experiences on getting work after finishing University. He Explained the rocky path which is job opportunities. Jumping from job industries until finally getting the opportunity to work off his own back which he has been doing for 4 years.
Came to a conclusion of himself being a curator rather than a designer. He reckons 80% of the work is in your head, 20% getting it to paper. Design is a communication tool. Explains a graphic designers skill comes from the editing process.
You don't need to like everything you design as long as it fits its purpose it all is meaning. His main passion within design is those with a reaction or purpose. He has published 2 books 1 on the mining strike and one on random events they both include, designs from both beginners and experts that make designs for a bigger purpose.
Craig showed what he has been doing when designing on his own, which was creating 2 books on different design influenced events in media. First book was particularly personal to him which was about the coal mine strike back in 1985, however the purpose of the book was to show the peoples creativeness at the time when wanting to get a point across. The book cover its self was very interesting as it was made using coal. Second book was a gathering of worldwide events where design has been noticed in media created by those you wouldn't expect to be doing so. When designing Craig sticks to 4 critique's observation, knowledge curation, empathy.
Here are the 2 published books Craig made:
Craig explained how he enjoys spontaneous design with a purpose, this can be found in people who are or are not creatives specifically.
