Wendy Mason works for AA2A she is self employed (sole trader). From her experienced she explained, you don't need to be the most motivated person to be a free lancer. Wendy describes self employment as simpler than a partnership or limited company. Being self employed doesn't mean you can't work with others on projects. It is also not the same as a zero hour contract.

Benefits include work in the field of your choice, and the freedom to pick and choose your hours.

Other ways you can earn money are selling work, running education or training workshops, competitions or other freelance work.

Another of getting funds for self employment work could me possible through the Arts Council England can provide grants for the arts. They offer grants from £1,000 to £100,000 if you support young people in areas that don't have much support.

Wendy explained that blogs and online portfolios are a useful way of showing your work, a good way to get work after graduating. Visiting open studio's are worth looking at if wanting to do self employed work in the future. Also useful is making sure you have some of your work handy at all times, as you never know who you will end up talking to.

Wendy elaborated that you only have to do enough work to live the lifestyle you want. Help students all round the uk, you can join 1 year after graduation.

Wendy's lecture was very helpful, made me realise there can be ways of making a living from just freelance alone.
