This weeks lecture was highlighting the do's and dont's of copyright. Neil explained that copyright can differ depending on the area of expertise, which was interesting as I previously thought that copyright was one big policy. I was also unaware that some people produce work and share it with a certain crowd, then try and catch people out using there work. This has made me think about what research I'm using off the internet, what the use of them images are for and the seriousness of plagiarism.
An example of copyright when using image sources off the web was a previous student. The students work was featured on the front of a newspaper, however he wasn't the owner of the original image used in the background of his designs. The original photographer discovered this and there for highlighted the issue with the papers and the university.
This shows how easy it is to plagiarise without the intention of illegal activity. There is a lot more to copyright than I originally thought, this lecture was very useful to see the depth of plagiarism under the Graphic Design category.
